We believe survivors of human trafficking and severe abuse deserve more than simply escaping danger. Escape is the beginning—but healing requires safety, stability, love and time.
At the heart of this vision is Arlene Zambrowski, a survivor whose lived experience helps shape our understanding of what survivors truly need. Her story reminds us that leaving an abusive situation does not immediately remove the fear, trauma or instability that can remain afterward.
Through my own work helping people through prayer, biblical healing and restoration, I have seen how difficult it is for someone to heal while they are still living in survival mode.
How can you focus on healing when you are constantly worrying about where you will sleep, how you will pay rent, where your next meal will come from, whether you are safe or whether you will have to return to a harmful situation?
That is why our vision is to acquire land and create a peaceful, off-grid, Christ-centered refuge where survivors can finally feel safe enough to rest and begin rebuilding their lives.
We want to create more than accommodation. We want to create a nurturing home and community where survivors have:
A secure roof over their heads
Their essential needs met
Loving and trustworthy relationships
Freedom from immediate financial pressure
Peaceful surroundings
Prayer and biblical support
Opportunities to learn, create and rediscover purpose
Appropriate safeguarding and professional support where needed
We want every person who enters the refuge to know:
You are safe here.
You are loved here.
You have value.
Your life still has purpose.
This campaign is the first practical step.
Funds raised will help us identify and secure suitable land and complete the legal, planning, surveying and infrastructure work needed to begin developing the refuge.
You can support the mission by:
Giving — Every contribution moves us closer to securing the land.
Sharing — Please share this campaign with friends, churches, ministries and businesses.
Praying — Pray that God leads us to the right land, people and resources.
We are not simply building somewhere to stay. We are creating the conditions in which survivors can move out of survival mode and begin experiencing safety, dignity, healing and hope.
“You will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.” — Isaiah 58:12
Thank you for standing with Arlene, with survivors and with On The Cross Ministry as we work to Build the Refuge.
